Creating jobs and building local economy

Anyone who knows me knows that I have been at the forefront of creating economic development opportunities in the 1st District and across the entire city for more than a decade now. As Chairman of the Redevelopment Authority, I instituted a new Land Disposition policy that ended the practice of land speculating and forced developers to build on City land or risk losing it. The policy has led to the creation of nearly $1 billion in new construction start-ups in Philadelphia and that's without TIFs or any other tax breaks.

Also at the RDA, I was instrumental in securing the state funding for the Convention Center expansion project and the RDA also efficiently handled all of the land acquisition and relocation of existing businesses and residences in the expansion zone. As labor leader, I led the successful effort to secure the Delaware River Main Channel Deepening Project, otherwise known as the dredging project. I support the redevelopment of the Navy Yard and maritime port industry. As Business Manager of IBEW Local 98, I took over a bankrupt local union in 1993 and built into a billion dollar industry that is closing in on 8 million man hours a year. I know how to create jobs and build our local economy.
